1860s Lt Wt Cotton Childs Dress w Some Lace Trim Start Price USD 75.00 Current Price USD 75.00 Time Left - Bid Count 0 Buy It Now Price - Reserve Price - Start Time Tuesday, November 04, 2008 End Time Thursday, December 04, 2008 Location Boston, MA See more about '1860s Lt Wt Cotton Childs Dress w Some Lace Trim' Description 1860s Lt Wt Cotton Child's Dress w Some Lace Trim Long child's dress made with a light weight white batiste type fabric that probably dates to around 1860.  This is the style worn by children about that time.  The square neckline is also typical of that period.  Sometimes the sleeves were worn off the shoulder and pulled straight across.  I have seen many of the early paintings where the dresses were worn this way.  The dress is gathered in front and in back at the neckline with a binding at the top that is only 1/4" with just enough room to run a thin tape through the binding to gather the neckline in a bit if necessary.  There is a tiny lace at the top of the binding.  The sleeves are short and a very simple design with just a thin row of lace edging.  The lace edging on the neckline and sleeve are both a little different, but original to the dress.  There is a 1/2" straight lace appliqued to the waist band and a lace insert on the bottom of the dress matching the lace at the waistline.  There is a button at the top for closure.  There is also a buttonhole at the waistline, but the button is missing.  The condition is fairly good for the age.  There is a tiny cluster of 2 or 3 pinholes on the top in front and a small tear, only about 1/4".  There is also a few age spots.  I have taken pictures of these.  The dress is fairly white, but the pictures show discolorations caused by lighting. The dress is 33" long.  Shoulder to waist is 7" long plus 1" for the waistband itself.  The skirt is 25" long.  The shoulder width is about 7", but gathered in could be 6".  If it is worn off the shoulder it is 8" across.  The waistband is 17" around.            Ask about our layaway plan for more expensive purchases.
