The dress is elaborately embroidered in ivory silk. It came with a CF Worth gown (already sold) and a typed note giving some provenance, but there may be some discrepencies in the note. I'll include the original note with this dress, since it's mostly telling about this one. It says that these dresses were worn by Ann Cameron, wife of William (Ewen- I believe his middle name is actually Evelyn) Cameron, a Virginia governor in the 1880's. This dress was made for the Inauguaration of Pre. Grover Cleveland in 1885. The embroidery was done in a Convent in Washington DC (petersham is stamped St. Rose Industrial School -Washington DC, at a cost of over $300.00. The other dress mentioned in the note, a wine velvet, I do not have. The bodice has had the center front taken off, there are some scraps of embroidered fabric pinned to the sleeve, the stipped cotton underbodice hooks edge to edge. The gray silk would come over it and button, the side with the button holes is there, but there are no buttons on the other side. It looks like all the center needs is to have the silk tacked in place, I don't know what the little pieces attached are for, maybe the collar, It has boning in the seams and the seams are overcast and trimmed with narrow silk seam binding. The sleeves come to the elbow and the bottom is trimmed with embroidery. The bodice measures 32 1/2 inches around the bust, waist is 24, across the back shoulders is 10 inches. There's something stiff adhered to the lining under the arms, I think it must have been displayed and something melted to the lining. It flakes off, but will leave stains on the lining. The beautiful skirt is on a waistband (waistband is starting to split and there are 2 splits on the skirt right under the waistband). It hangs in a long train and is lined with a stiff linen-ish lining. The hem is faced with a lace ruffle. The skirt is embroidered down the front and around the hem. It measures 26 inches around the waist, hips are full, waist to hem in front is 37 1/2 inches and waist to hem in back is 53 1/2 inches. Other than the waist, the skirt is in wonderful condition, no stains or holes. This beautiful dress is a piece of history, it came from a small museum that closed in the Washington area. Excellent vintage condition. Fortunate buyer shipping based on 3 pounds from zip code 12566. Non U.S.shipping will vary. For international purchases, it will 1e checked as merchandise.
