The thumb piece is a cabochon cut genuine sapphire (0.4 carat) of deep royal blue color. The owner had the beautiful F monogram outside  engraved on the cartouche.  This engraving is easily removable because  the engraving is not very deep. Please see the close-up, below. Both of the two original champagne-coloured elasticized bands are still in place. The case is stamped with a foreign hallmark with  585 and the maker’s mark BC. Probably  Germany or Austria ( case has been positive proofed for 14 carat  gold) The case is 3.1" x 3.5" x 0.55 inches". The oval cabochon sapphire has 0.4 ct. The case weighs 3.93 troy ounces and is in excellent condition, with the usual light surface scratches. The clasp and the spring works very well and the case shuts firmly and in proper alignment.
