Description
IRENE DOCUMENTED BALLGOWN DRESS-BULLOCKS-WHILSHIRE Hollywood costume designer, Irene, was known for her extraordinary signature eveningwear. She often dressed celebrities, such as Ginger Rogers, Barbara Stanwyck, Katharine Hepburn, Loretta Young and Joan Crawford to name a few. Not to mention, Irene designed costumes for many major Hollywood films in the 1930's and 40's. It is rare today to find an Irene signature evening gown. Irene was given a contract to head up the Costume Design Salon of the famous Bullocks-Wilshire store in Los Angeles. It was at Bullocks-Wilshire that Irene began designing clothes for stars to wear in pictures. Paramount, MGM, RKO, Columbia, United Artists all used Irene custom originals for their stars. The gown being offered is shown on the cover of an old Bullocks-Wilshire Catalogue. The gown is a made-to-order custom piece produced for a celebrity either for personal wear or for the studio. Strapless with appliqued boned bodice fashioned of wedgewood silk taffeta extending into a 6 cloverleaf appliqued paneled skirt (very reminiscent of Charles James cloverleaf gown) extending into layers of off white tulle. Long dramatic bow treatment ties at back. Gown has a long slender creme crepe sheath skirt beneath layers of netting. Back zipper closure. If you are a collector of Old Hollywood glamourous costume designer fashions, this is a treasured find. Catalogue not included as I no longer have it. bust: to 31-32"; waist: 22"; hips: (measured from sheath) approx: 40"; length: 60"+ Condition: Since I am conservative, I would say that the condition is very good to excellent; tulle skirt has been professionally replaced in keeping with the original design of the garment. Crepe skirt has a few light stains and a tiny tear all of which are not obvious ... skirt remains in strong, excellent condition. Tiny pinhole at side of bodice.. not obvious.. one can leave as is or cover with small applique made to blend in with original appliques. A few very faint stains which are hard to detect. Back bow needs to be further secured to back; some small tears at hemline of bust and at back; and also at zipper closure... all easy fixes. Gown is clean. A cleaning most likely would make it even more spectacular .. if that is possible:) SEE ALL MY DESIGNER LISTINGS Terms & Conditions: SHIPPING: IN U.S. VIA FEDEX GROUND; INT'L VIA USPS EXPRESS MAIL Pls. contact seller within 24 hours at end of auction to confirm transaction.
